SOCIAL WATCH ORGANIZATION

Advocates for government accountability to climate change policy commitments, including the implementation of the East Africa Community Climate Change Policy (EACCCP 2011), the Paris Agreement (2015), and the Lake Victoria Transport Act (2007). The organization also promotes pro-poor low emission development strategies in East Africa by advocating for policy implementation and ensuring civil society input in decision-making processes.

Empowers poor, rural communities in three districts in Uganda and across East Africa to access clean energy and improve livelihoods through economic and climate-friendly methods. The organization also strengthens national Civil Society Organization (CSO) networking and advocacy to increase targets and financing for local, sustainable, pro-poor, and gender-responsive climate and energy solutions in national development strategies in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Developed the EASE-CA Catalogue, which features 45 local sustainable solutions popular in East Africa and used by over 1000 people, available electronically online.

Implements projects on climate finance accountability and monitoring under the FLLoCA program, and strengthens community resilience through transparent county climate finance in Kisumu County.

Implements several projects focused on Climate Change, Natural Resource Management, and Sustainable Land Management (SLM). This includes increasing access to sustainable energy and climate solutions for local communities in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, and promoting climate-smart agriculture and sustainable land management practices.

Published a report outlining a scenario for Kenya to achieve a 100% renewable energy economy by 2050, transition to an upper middle-income country, and reduce biomass use to sustainable levels.
