AGRO PASTORAL DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION (APDO)

Facilitates dialogues and agreements between pastoralist communities to prevent conflicts over water and grazing land, promoting peacebuilding and local governance in cross-border regions.

Implements programs in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) of Kenya, particularly Turkana and West Pokot Counties, and cross-border areas with Uganda, South Sudan, and Ethiopia, focusing on integrated development and humanitarian needs.

Implementing the “Enhancing Donkey Resilience and Welfare among the Karamoja Communities of the Loima-Moroto Corridor” project in Turkana West and Loima (2024–2025), including ongoing animal welfare programs focused on donkeys in Turkana County.

Promotes SRHR through community dialogue sessions, information sharing, and sensitization programs to enhance awareness and facilitate access to SRHR services in Turkana County.

Provides regular veterinary clinics in pastoralist communities, including vaccinations and treatment for livestock diseases, to enhance animal health and productivity.

Facilitates research initiatives that inform county-level policy and supports communities in developing local governance structures, particularly in Turkana County.

Provides business development training and start-up kits to support youth entrepreneurship and economic empowerment in target communities.

Conducts awareness campaigns and training sessions to educate communities on available social protection services and how to access them, enhancing inclusion and rights awareness.

Provides WASH services and implements sustainable water access projects, including a completed project in Lokwee, Lokichogio, that improved water availability for communities in Turkana County.

Conducts awareness campaigns to challenge discriminatory cultural norms and advocates for women's rights and gender equality in pastoralist communities.

Implements disaster risk reduction programs including early warning systems, community training in preparedness, climate-resilient agriculture, and development of community-specific disaster response plans in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands of Kenya.

Established more than 10 fodder farms in Turkana County to improve livestock nutrition and support community income, contributing to food security and resilience in pastoralist communities.

Offers leadership training for women, including education on civic rights, public speaking, and advocacy, to increase their participation in community decision-making and governance.

Supports the establishment and operation of VSLAs, particularly for women in Turkana, to promote financial inclusion, savings, access to small loans, and investment in income-generating activities.

Provides training and conducts workshops on sustainable land use, water conservation, reforestation, and natural resource management to build community capacity in environmental stewardship and climate adaptation.
