WEST KENYA RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Transformed community attitudes towards Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers, shifting perception from "schools for AIDS orphans" to normal schools for all children.

Provides training for Early Childhood Development (ECD) volunteer teachers at government-run colleges (DICECE centre).

Implements Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) strategies for HIV/AIDS and Psycho-Social Support, and increases the uptake of Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) and Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) services.

Provides training in modern farming methods, food preservation, and agribusiness, as well as small enterprise development, loans, and savings startup schemes for families to engage in agribusiness initiatives.

Conducted a needs assessment survey in six districts of Kenya in 1999.

Elevated some community Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers, such as Munongo, Musaka, Mujuru, and Iyanga, to primary schools.

Provides early childhood development services to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs), having served over 20,000 OVCs since 2001 and facilitated the promotion of over 5,000 OVCs to Primary 1.
