YOUTH PROGRESS TRAINING INSTITUTE

Organizes dialogue circles and community campaigns to educate on public funds such as the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), youth and women funds, and the high cost of living. Trained 21 community members in social audit of CDF and initiated the Starehe Wananchi Congress model, replicated in other constituencies.

Serves as an open forum for community discussions on social, economic, and judicial issues, and organizes large-scale community gatherings including a 2-day community congress, a 'Climate Change' congress, and a slum food festival that engaged 1,000 participants. Provides venues for meetings and gatherings for partner groups.

Provides computer and internet literacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership training to youth, including school dropouts. Trained over 1,000 youth in computer skills and supported over 1,000 school dropouts to access sponsorships for vocational training in fields like carpentry, mechanics, and dressmaking.

Operates the Ongoza Njia Community Development Centre (OCDC) in Kiamaiko ward, Mathare sub-county, Nairobi County, serving as a hub for training, meetings, and community engagement. The center was built with support from partner organization BuildHer.

Supports youth in accessing national identity cards and birth certificates and provides legal assistance linkages for victims of social injustices such as domestic violence, rape, and post-election sexual abuse. Linked 50 victims of sexual abuse to medical and legal aid.

Conducts environmental training, community clean-up programs, and river rehabilitation initiatives. Organized a 6-month clean-up program and trained over 100 CBOs/SHGs to develop an environmental action strategy for Mathare Sub County focused on restoring the Mathare River.

Supports Community Economic Development (CED) initiatives including urban farming ventures for 8 partner associations, linkages to credit for 15 youth entrepreneurs, and market access for art/craft products through Fair Trade in France. Conducts asset mapping and resource mobilization at the community level.

Engaged 3,500 families in a 'cash for work and food security' project and provided relief assistance to 1,000 victims of post-election violence across ethnic communities. Supports food security through urban farming and community-based initiatives.

Provides linkages to healthcare services, particularly for HIV/AIDS caregiving, and offers counseling services to vulnerable populations including street children and victims of violence. Assisted 200 street children with basic support and counseling.

Provides leadership and management training, facilitates access to equipment and materials, and supports documentation and information processing for 150 partner CBOs and SHGs. Organized 25 training sessions for 70 associations and assisted 57 organizations in acquiring materials for farming, sports, recycling, and cultural activities.
